Military Appreciation - Kailua Chamber of Commerce will be honoring:
Kailua Chamber of Commerce Non Commission Officer of the Year...Sgt. Brittany Kroha
Sergeant Kroha was born in Ironton, Ohio. She enlisted in the Marine Corps on 24 August 2009 and attended Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  After attending Marine Combat Training and Financial Management School, Sgt. Kroha served as a dispersing clerk in Camp Lejeune NC, she then deployed in support of OEF, and when she returned, she went to work in the records office.  Sgt. Kroha received orders to MCB Hawaii in January 2014 and is currently assigned to the Finance Office of Marine Corps Base Hawaii as a Military Pay Non-Commissioned Officer.  Sgt. Kroha has certified over $2.5 Million dollars in payments and adjustments to Marines ensuring they were receiving their proper entitlements.  She is described as a highly motivated and energetic Marine whose engaging personality encourages others to match her determination. She routinely takes initiative on upcoming tasks and goes above and beyond her duties.  She has high expectations for herself and brings out the best in the Marines around her.

Kailua Chamber of Commerce Marine of the Year...Cpt. Destry Walrath
Cpl. Walrath grew up in the small town of Clinton, Missouri which has approximately 10,000 people.  He played football, wrestled, ran track tennis.  After spending one semester at Ozark Technical Community College he enlisted in the Marine Corps and shipped off to boot camp on March 19th, 2012.  Cpl. Walrath is assigned to the Finance Office, Headquarters Battalion.   He is responsible for processing the Permanent Change of Station travel claims and advances for all the Marines who report to Marine Corps Base Hawaii.  Outside his daily duties he encourages his peers and subordinates to do their best during physical training, and invites them to explore the island by hiking or spear fishing to ensure they are positively engaged during their free time.  Corporal Walrath's dedication to lookout for his fellow Marines encourages them to be better on and off duty.  His unwavering dedication and Esprit de Corps are a prime example of what the Marine Corps is looking for within its ranks.

Kailua Chamber of Commerce BJOY (Blue Jacket of the Year)...Seamen Johnta Minor
Boatswain's Mate Seaman Minor was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  After graduating High School on 25 June 2011, Seaman Minor worked at various places for almost 2 years before he enlisted in the United States Navy on 6 March 2013. Seaman Minor then graduated from Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, IL on 3 May 2013.  Following graduation, Seaman Minor was assigned to Marine Corp Base Hawaii on 22 June 2013, and is currently attached to Waterfront Operations, Headquarters Battalion.  Waterfront Operation's primary missions are to provide Marine Corp Base Hawaii with Waterborne Search and Rescue assets, serve as a member of the installation's Facility Response Team (FRT) in the event of an oil/hazardous fluid spill, and to provide assistance to Military Police by enforcing security regulation's in prohibited and restricted waters. Seaman Minor has responded to two Search and Rescue operations, 32 buffer zone intrusions and assisted with three Army and one Navy Helicopter Cast Operations.  He is a highly motivated Sailor, who pushes not only himself, but the Sailors around him to compete at the highest level possible and to push themselves to new heights.

Public welcome...$25 per person (Includes buffet lunch 11:30 - 12:00).
